Red Sticks

New Sweden
The group consists of a nuclear fuel designer, an oceanographer, and good old blue collar American boys who march to the theory that "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts" (Aristotle). With their diversity, the band creates heartfelt music with meaningful lyrics that make you ponder happiness, sadness, or even luckiness to be where you are in this crazy and unpredictable world. Simply put, they are dedicated to the power of the song. Music makes the world go round, and they write the soundtrack.
They combine guitar, bass, organ, banjo, mandolin, viola, percussion, and anything else they can get their hands on to form their sound.

Lauris Vidal
"Lauris Vidal creates innovative and unique folk music with dark undertones, but always carrying a message of hope. His lively performances include ukulele, tenor banjo, lap steel, guitar and sometimes even lap bass. Seeing Lauris Vidal is an experience all its own; we cannot tell you quite what to expect." -WMNF 88.5FM

The Jean Marie
Philadelphia transplants from Miami, The Jean Marie's music is the sound of multi-tasking. One part post-punk, two parts funk boogie, and a bit of prog, they create a musical cacophony that draws on influences from The Talking Heads to TV on the Radio

The Jean Marie released their first EP, What's a Revolution Without Backup Dancers?, to critical acclaim in 2006, and the self titled follow up EP in 2007. In January 2009 they released Annie Jump Cannon, their highly anticipated full length album that has brought them attention across the blogosphere and an article in the New York Times.

Chosen to open for national touring bands such as the B52's, Bloc Party, EOTO, The Noisettes, Gym Class Heroes, HelloGoodbye, and Tokyo Police Club; The Jean Marie are known for their energy fueled live shows.

Shutters
Evolving as a rhythm-driven band, Shutters animates the broad mosaic of melodies and lyrics that Lindsay assembles. Rooted in contemporary rock, their varied harmonies allude to jazz and classical influences. All band members collaborate on arrangements.

Vincent Minor
Vincent Minor will delight and confound you. While his giddy production style suggests a wide-eyed wonderland, his darkly humorous wordsmithery tells some mighty unsavory tales. He casually melts together modern indie pop and classic Tin Pan Alley songcraft like he has the last 100 years of songwriting on speed dial. Vincent Minor’s songs set the toes tapping and the cortex wrinkling simultaneously.

After their first three albums, the band expanded their following significantly with the release of their fourth, Puzzle in 2007. The album went gold in the UK, selling over 100,000 units. Biffy Clyro's popularity was built upon further in 2008 and 2009 with the release of the singles "Mountains" and "That Golden Rule", which both reached the top 10 of the UK singles chart. Their latest album, Only Revolutions, reached #8 in the UK chart and went gold within days of its release in 2009, later going platinum in 2010 and became nominated for the Mercury Music Prize.
Simon Neil is the main singer, though all three band members contribute to vocal duties. The band are known for using complex and interwoven guitar riffs, unusual time signatures and chord sequences and melodies that often change throughout songs, and for their energetic live performances

The Spring Standards

The Spring Standards are an energetic force of three-part harmony circling over a rock n' roll sound with an old country aftertaste.  Each member of the band is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, and they use their strengths as a trio to create a sound that listeners might expect from a band twice their size.  With an emphasis on three part harmony and a variety of instrumental switching, their range and energy make each live show a unique event.  Rhett Miller of The Old 97s co-produced their EP, and their full length album was produced by Bryce Goggins (Pavement, Phish, Apples in Stereo).

Sunny Day Music & Y-Not Radio welcome:

Sea Wolf - Solo Acoustic Tour
Taking its name from novelist Jack London’s 1904 seafaring adventure, Sea Wolf has evolved organically from its hermetic origins in Alex Brown Church’s living room into a muscular, full-bodied musical entity with passion to burn. After adopting the sobriquet, Church burst onto the music scene in two-fisted fashion with the EP, Get to the River Before It Runs Too Low, and the subsequent full-length debut album, Leaves in the River, about which Interview magazine observed, “His music is both erudite and unvarnished, a blend of swirling melodies, literary balladry and damaged art-rock composition.”

Big Terrible
"These kids ain't no joke, as they say in the streets. You just dont hear this style of music too much anymore. Makes you want to go buy a Marshall, turn it up as loud as it can go, and piss your neighbors off. It's good to know that kids still know how to do things the way they were meant to be done. Really Loud!"-- Tommy Conwell - 94.1 WYSP DJ

Kill Weathy Dowager

Gholas
"This New Jersey-based quartet has carved out its own niche within the city's heavy music scene, blowing eardrums and dropping jaws with their spaced-out progressive metal compositions. Equal parts Mogwai, Mouth of the Architect, Russian Circles, Jesu, and Sonic Youth, Gholas are a rare and compelling sort of band, one with its own aesthetic, sound, and raw, beating heart." - Kim Kelly

Unicycle Loves You
Often times when bands pay homage to their influences they end up being lax mimickers. Thankfully, Unicycle Loves You is far from that. They take bits from various genres spanning over several decades and pack them all into an indie-pop cornucopia of tasty feel-good music riddled with insightful lyrics. The Chi-town Quintet is currently busy touring/promoting their first full-length self-titled album due out later this year in early June. Junius
"A perfect hybrid of Neurosis and the Smiths, striking a stunning balance of brutality and beauty. Spellbinding and heartbreaking, gripping from the first note to the last. A hard rock dream come true." -Rolling Stone

Howl
Providence, Rhode Island’s HOWL ushers in a new age of iron and steel with their Relapse debut Full of Hell. Wave after wave of the quartet’s devastating riffs pound hard as tracks “Horns of Steel”, “Jezebel”, “The Scorpion's Last Sting”, and the insidious crawl of “Heavenless” make clear. Full of Hell rocks hard and heavy, and is as unrelenting as the title implies.

Swingin' Utters

Originally formed in the '80s, the Swingin' Utters brought their own brand of aggressive music to the growing Bay Area punk scene. As well as being classed as a rock, street punk and even Oi band, reminiscent of British '70s bands, Swingin' Utters have increasingly shown themselves to be influenced by traditional Irish, American country, folk, and Reggae. Soon the Swingin' Utters established their position as the West Coast's most dependable purveyors of gimmick-free punk. The genre is all about nonconformity and youthful aggression and rebelling against all things corporate. Without straying from their proletariat roots and blue-collar attitude, the Utters managed to maintain a nearly impossible level of respect from a culture that generally despises any shifts toward mainstream popularity. Swingin' Utters seem ready to defy the usual aging process that forces most punk bands to become little more than musical points of reference. The original punk revivalists stand undeterred by odds that are surely stacked against them, at least in a commercial sense. Of course, MTV sex-appeal and success on the pop-charts have no correlation to punk rock triumph. No lucrative record deal or marketing tactic could prove victory for the Swingin' Utters. These details are trivial in comparison to what the band possesses: a loyal fan-base of several decades and a permanent position in the history book of American punk.
